Middlefield Golf Course

About
Middlefield Golf Course in is an 18-hole executive course that is owned and operated by the city of Cottage Grove. The conveniently located course is easily accessible from both the north and south. The course has a modest length that is just a hair over 5,000 yards but some who play Middlefield consider it to rival some of the area's championship length courses. The course borders the Row River with some holes playing right along its shores. There are also a few ponds that come into play. Water is a prominent feature of the golf course but mature trees and landscaping border the fairways as well, requiring some accuracy. Middlefield G.C. has a player-friendly design that will appeal to beginners but also provide a quick and casual round for more advanced players.

Used to be ok, avoid at all costs now (2024)
Used to be an ok muni course, now they have a really rude staff (everyone changed), no cart maintenance, and they are not ok with novice players.
The carts routinely die mid-course and go under 6mph.
If you golf over 100 prepare to be hassled for “slow rate of play” even at 12-15 minutes per hole for a foursome.
They have no stated rate of play and have problems with scheduling tee times properly so even if your playing great you’ll likely be hassled.
Frankly, the director (as of 2024) of the course is extremely rude and unprofessional, and it just rolls downhill from there. Be prepared to hear that you should be able to get it on the green quicker by all the staff.
I recommend skipping middle field, there isn’t enough of a savings to be harassed and abused by the staff that lacks basic human decency and has no articulated rules but just arbitrarily enforces their little fiefdom. I can define the employees as sad little kings of their sad little hills. It’s a muni course, get off your high horse it’s never going to be a professional course.

Solid course!
Middlefield is certainly an above average executive course. The greens are good and roll true. The yardage is short on most of the par 4s, but big trees and narrow fairways require quality shots.
With I-5 down the middle, you have to cross (under) back and forth 4 times. Down side, too many beginers who don't understand etiquette and use the tee boxes for batting practice...painfully slow pace of play.
Best course for your money
Middlefield is so well maintained and has such a friendly staff both on the course and in the club house.
Average length strikers welcome here
Average strikers can make the green in regulation. Well maintained course with friendly staff and good prices. Be aware I-5 bisects course making it a little loud.
Fun short course with above average greens.
this place gets wet, really wet in the winter. but hey, if you're itching to play an executive course split in two by I-5 this is your graceland

Great course for young and old alike
well maintained public course with the exception of a few wet spots from irrigation leaks.
