Heron Lakes Golf Course was opened for public play in 1971. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and is located off of I-5 next to the Portland International Raceway. It was named after the Blue Herons that inhabit the many lakes and ponds around the course. There are two courses, the Great Blue and the Green Back.

The Great Blue has been rated for years as the most difficult course in the Portland Area. It is a links style course with water, tall rough, narrow fairways, and sand everywhere. Most fairways on the Great Blue narrow to small greens that roll and pitch in several directions.

The Green Back is similar to the Great Blue except it has more trees and fewer fairway bunkers. It also ranks as one of Portland's most difficult.

So, buy some extra golf balls, practice at the range, and make a tee time for one of the most challenging rounds you will play in the Portland area. Tee up!

It's large, rolling and chipping is allowed.The Heron Lakes clubhouse provides all the amenities a golfer needs. Clubs, bags, clothing, and most important....your favorite food or beverage. The large screen TV is always playing the latest sporting events and the cedar deck has plenty of room for yoHole #18 is the course signature hole. Fairway bunkers and rough mounds line the left and water lines the right from tee to green. The fairway narrows to a two tiered green that is surrounded by bunkers.506 yards from the blue tees and ranked as one of the toughest par 5's in the Portland area. Fairway bunkers and mounds line the left and trees and water line the right. The fairway narrows as you approach the small green with a lake jutting in on the rigHole #11 is a 173-yard par 3 from the blue with water in front and large deep bunkers on both sides of a two tiered green.Fairway bunkers and grass mounds line both sides of the fairway on #7. Your approach shot will be the true test of your accuracy. Check out the narrowing fairway, bunkers on the right, and trees on the left. You're in trouble with anything but a green shoThe photo of hole #6 was taken from the right side to show the extremely deep bunkers and two tiered green. The bunker to the far right is 4 feet deep near the green and will most certainly take away any chance of a par.Hole #4 is almost all water from tee to green. Three bunkers are to the left and heavy rough on the mounds at the backHole #2 is a 515-yard par 5 with fairway and green bunkers on both sides. Water and rough line the narrowing fairway to the green on the right. This is a tough hole!

    Tough, well maintained course with a lot of water & sand traps on every hole. Good course to walk with only problem being the Geese droppings in the winter & spring time. They could use another Beer Lady in the summer time as there is not a lot of shade to hide under.

    Excellent city golf course.This course gets alot of play but for the most part you'll enjoy it.Almost every hole has water on it!
