Heron Lakes Golf Course was opened for public play in 1971. The course was designed by Robert Trent Jones, Jr. and is located off of I-5 next to the Portland International Raceway. It was named after the Blue Herons that inhabit the many lakes and ponds around the course. There are two courses, the Great Blue and the Green Back.

The Great Blue has been rated for years as the most difficult golf course in the Portland Area. It is a links style course with water, tall rough, narrow fairways, and sand everywhere. Most fairways on the Great Blue narrow to small greens that roll and pitch in several directions.

The practice green will provide the golfer with plenty of practice for the course greens that lie ahead. It's large, rolling and chipping is allowed.

The Heron Lakes clubhouse provides all the amenities a golfer needs. Clubs, bags, clothing, and most important....your favorite food or beverage. The large screen TV is always playing the latest sporting events and the cedar deck has plenty of room for yo

Hole #18 is the course signature hole. Fairway bunkers and rough mounds line the left and water lines the right from tee to green. The fairway narrows to a two tiered green that is surrounded by bunkers.

Hole #11 is a 173-yard par 3 from the blue with water in front and large deep bunkers on both sides of a two tiered green.

The photo of hole #6 was taken from the right side to show the extremely deep bunkers and two tiered green. The bunker to the far right is 4 feet deep near the green and will most certainly take away any chance of a par.

Hole #4 is almost all water from tee to green. Three bunkers are to the left and heavy rough on the mounds at the back

Hole #2 is a 515-yard par 5 with fairway and green bunkers on both sides. Water and rough line the narrowing fairway to the green on the right. This is a tough hole!

Tough, well maintained course with a lot of water & sand traps on every hole. Good course to walk with only problem being the Geese droppings in the winter & spring time. They could use another Beer Lady in the summer time as there is not a lot of shade to hide under.

Excellent city golf course.This course gets alot of play but for the most part you'll enjoy it.Almost every hole has water on it!
