Beautiful Canvas!
This course gets prettier by the day. Inspiring to see all of the work put into making this a destination course. Can’t wait to see the flowers and new planting this summer!
Quirky Course with Tons of Potential
Overall I had a decent experience at The Mook, but it left much to be desired.
The staff was accommodating, and friendly. They have a very nice clubhouse and pro shop. The driving range is a bit ratty with some old mats and junk targets. Still, a nice touch to include a warm-up bucket with the round. Please offer your guests a complimentary dousing of bug spray, because the mosquitoes here are relentless and bloodthirsty. Yeah, I know that sounds silly, but trust me - it was insane, and I've been camping in national forests around Cascadia for over 40 years.
I was surprised to see so much brown grass and dead spots considering that we've had a pretty tame summer. I'll refrain from commenting on the greens since they have just been sanded/aerated. As far as design, most of them are tiny.
I didn't have trouble finding my way around despite the very odd routing on the back nine. They have some very new nice stone markers, but they're oddly missing from several holes.
It's wide open on the back, so there are options to change the routing and still keep it interesting. There are no course guides, but the website is well-designed with hole-by-hole videos.
The uphill par 3 is just weird. What's the play here with branches overhanging in the middle of the shot path? If you hit a low shot underneath you'll line drive it into the hill. You can aim left of the branches, but who can hit a 25-yard fade wedge to an uphill green? I don't think it is poorly designed, but definitely needs some tree trimming to make it playable.
The Mook grass design on the hill probably looks more impressive when it's not burned out.
Several greens had a very soggy or ground under repair area in front of the green. Several tee boxes were very beat up or just looked really sad.
The water hazards didn't seem very well maintained. This is probably quite a project though and will take time like the other conditions I've mentioned.
I feel like it has a ton of potential. I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt here because it looks like they're really trying, and understand these things take time. I'll definitely return and look forward to seeing the improvements.
Good place to play
What a great course. Only thing I didn't like was no dress code. Had some clown out there with a sleeveless shirt and denim. Looked like a hillbilly!
Nice quiet course
Great greens, fairway is ok, the rough is hard like all courses around here. I was expecting something more low key and basic but it was surprisingly nice and not too busy on a Saturday. Challenging course. Some of the fairway is impossible to hit from because of the ratty grass that traps your club, but overall it’s nice.
Pro: it has the only driving range for 50 miles
Con: range is matts only and no drivers allowed
Bumpy fairways
Greens are great, lots of elevation changes and fun to play but some fairways are like mini bomb craters you may have to move your ball before hitting
Course not in best condition
Fairways were not in good condition.. Greens were extremely slow.
Back nine was very hilly and cart paths were dangerous.
under appreciated gem
This is a fun, challenging course in a beautiful setting. Look for the many daily deals.
Beautiful day at Alderbrook
Course was full, so golfing was a little slow but great being on the course.
Beautiful day at Alderbrook
Golfing was great. Went at 9, so still a little damp out. Slow players in front of us, but fortunately they only played 9. Then it was smooth sailing until the 14th hole, power ran out on the cart. But that didn't change a beautiful round of golf.
Beautiful day
Course has it challenges. You must stay out of the rough. Elevated tees and greens on select holes. Greens in good shape with some challenging pin locations.
Nice course for the price
First time playing this course this year. Course was in decent shape. The 15th hole is still a killer, only 110 yards but straight uphill. A few greens had some damage but were in good shape overall.
Difficult and Treacherous
Not suitable for average golfers. Obstacles and hazards on almost every hole. Cart paths are difficult to find at times and go through several steep, winding patches. We felt fortunate to finish the round without being seriously injured. On the plus side, beautiful landscape, many great views.
Kim Lucey
Course in good condition, greens in good shape but some traps neglected.
Outstanding Oregon Coast Golf
The course is picturesque and can be challenging on wayward shots. It offers a couple elevated tee shots and even a short par 3 where the green is about 70 feet above the tee box. I’ll definitely play this course again.
Inadequate communication between the course and Golfnow.
I showed up at about 10:00 for my 10:40 T time booked on line with Golfnow. The T time was for 18 holes. When I arrived, there was a big sign on the door of the pro show stating that the course was closing at noon for a high school cross country track meet. The pro told me that I would only be able to play 9 holes and that I would need to be finished by noon as the course would be closed. As it was, I got paired up with 3 local folks and had a decent time but the 9 holes were rushed and not a good representative round to compare the course. Better communication would have let me know about the early closing and I would have either picked an earlier time or another course.
Great course
I am a beginner but I had a great time some difficult holes it made things interesting but I would recommend this course. Easy to get a tee time and not very busy.
Very nice!
I did not expect a course in small town such as Tillamook to have beautiful clubhouse and overall settings. Tho late summer dry weather took a toll on fairways but the greens were well watered and felt very nice. You will need a cart due to long layouts and lots of elevation changes, at $20 fee a little steep but green fees was only $12 for 18 holes so it even out.
Did Golf Now or Alderbrook offer any type of refund or credit? I often worry about this kind of stuff when booking through 3rd parties.
