Destination Guide
Destination: Southwest Oregon
You'll find a variety of golf options in southwest Oregon surrounding the region's largest city, Medford, which has a metro population of more than 200,000 residents. The area sits in the Rogue Valley between the Cascade Mountain Range and Siskiyou Mountains. As a result, the climate is drier than most of western Oregon, and it's sunnier than the Willamette Valley, making for ideal golf conditions for much of the year, although the summers can be quite hot.
One of the finest facilities in the region is the Eagle Point Golf Course, a 1996 Robert Trent Jones Jr. design that is open year-round. Sand capped, this championship bluegrass golf course drains exceptionally well. Named one of the top golf courses in Oregon by several publications, the course can play as long as 7,100 yards.
Near Grants Pass you'll find Grants Pass Golf Club, a semi-private par-72 facility that dates back to 1946, however it didn't become 18 holes until 1972. And just a few miles away is Dutcher Creek, considered on the best values in southern Oregon. This picturesque par 70, as well as its comfortable clubhouse, provides great views of the Siskiyou and Grayback mountain ranges. Out in Klamath Falls you'll find a couple of 18-hole layouts, including Shield Crest Golf Course, an open and very playable layout with great views of Shasta Mountain. Shield Crest, which plays as long as 7,000 yards, also features terrific practice facilities.
