Opened in 1918, Eastmoreland is the oldest of the four municipal golf courses in the Portland area. Rose City, Heron Lakes, and Progress downs are the other three. All courses have their unique qualities and share a piece of Oregon History.

Eastmoreland originated through the efforts of the Superintendent of Parks James Conville, T. Morris Dunne of the Multnomah Athletic Club, Victor Johnson of Waverley, Jonah Wise of Tualatin, and Millard Hollbrook of the Portland Golf Club. They began a committee that raised $3,000 for seed that later grew into a $250,000 project.

The Park Department was given tax-free use of 160 acres by the Ladd Estate Company and in 1917 the course was laid out by National Amateur Champion H. Chandler Eagan. Construction of the course was delayed by several problems including America's entry into World War I. Persistence and hard work resulted in the course opening in July of 1918. It was an instant success.

Eastmoreland is ranked as one of the nations top 100 public courses. The City Championship was created here and has been held here ever since the opening summer of 1918. The greens fees are the best in the city for a course of this quality.
