- Course is much more difficult than the course rating would lead you to expect.
In order to score well you will need to move forward at least one set of tees. Maybe more if you don't play golf very often.
Perhaps the best greens in the Bend area. Very fast but very true. Played this course many times.As a resident of Central Oregon I offer the following: Juniper is a great course. It plays far longer than it's rated 6600+ yards from the green tees. It also plays at a slope of 136 instead of the 126 rating from the green tees.
This is a true players course. You must know the course and heed the often windy conditions. The fairways have many undulating hillocks which challenge your shot making capabilities even when your drive was straight in the middle of the fairway.
The greens are VERY firm and true. It seems that the whole course just needs to be watered A LOT more. The grass on the fairways is the sparsest in Central Oregon but this is a true desert course. When you are off the fairway, you are in the desert with sand, lava rock, scrub sage and of course lots of Juniper trees, the namesake of the course.
This is the only course in Central Oregon that offers great 360 degree views of the entire Central Oregon Basin as well as all mountain ranges and Smith Rock. The bunkers are filled with beautiful white sand and are superbly maintained. So don't be afraid of landing in one. Water on 2 holes.

Final advice: If you are new to the course play from the white tees (for men). STAY on the fairway. Allow extra space for your ball to check up on the greens.
As for slow play, it is epidemic in Central Oregon on every public course. Expect a 4:45 to 5 hour round or play very early in the morning or during the heat of the afternoon for faster play. I encourage you to call the clubhouse often during any round that is longer than 4 hours and report slow play. Central Oregon is filled with retired people and vacationing families. They play slow golf. Call the clubhouse.
The back nine was a bit frustrating as a result and needn't have happened. Won't be returning any time soon.
