Views galore on the new Glaze Meadow golf course at Black Butte Ranch
BLACK BUTTE RANCH, Ore. -- The new Glaze Meadow Course at Black Butte Ranch in central Oregon hardly resembles the original course that opened in 1982 and was designed by Gene "Bunny" Mason.
Architect John Fought and associate Mike Gogel introduced classic architectural features to create a course that lives up to its name, restoring the meadows that once flowed through the pine trees set against the backdrop of the Cascade Mountains.
Thousands of trees -- many of them blocking views of both the mountains and the greens -- were removed. Bunkers were moved and redone, and the greens and fairways were rebuilt and recontoured as part of a $3.75-million renovation that was completed in the spring of 2012.
The par-72 Glaze Meadow, one of two championship courses at the resort, now plays at 7,007 yards from the longest of five sets of tees.
