Tucked amidst the waterfalls, peaks, forests and canyons of the Columbia Gorge lies a rustic mountain resort and conference center called Skamania Lodge.
Surrounded by crimson bluffs, some visitors never venture far from the lodge. They find themselves lost in the blissful charm of breathtaking views, nature trails, and crackling fireplaces. Others treat the lodge as little more than a base camp, plunging headlong into the phenomenal wind surfing, wine tasting, sternwheeler riding, golfing and hiking of the region. Of course the happiest guests do both.
Inside the lodge, a sense of history permeates the casual atmosphere, as Native American-inspired rugs, petroglyph rubbings, Pendleton fabrics and mission-style wood furnishings surround you.
In keeping with the authentic Northwest experience, the rustic wood-burning oven yields a mouth-watering array of local breads, meats, river fish and other regional favorites. And, as if the cuisine weren't impressive enough, our restaurant offers an astonishing view of the Gorge.
The lodge also offers a challenging golf experience you will not soon forget. The 18-hole course winds through forest and around ponds, with spectacular scenic views. The terrain is long and steep on several holes so a drive cart is recommended but not necessary. The course is about an hour drive east from Portland across the Bridge of the Gods (75¢ toll). Follow the signs.
