Located just 45 minutes outside of Portland, Skamania Lodge Golf Course is surrounded by woodlands, giving it an entirely secluded feel. The course sits along the north bank of the Columbia River Gorge. Golfers shouldn't be surprised if they are joined by some of the abundant wildlife that call the course home, including deer, turtles, geese, and osprey. The terrain also provides a variety of challenges, ranging from dramatic elevation changes to mature trees lining the fairways. Water comes into play frequently and the landing areas are extremely tight. The yardage listed on the scorecard, 1,435 yards, does not accurately reflect the challenges of this golf course so be prepared for a formidable test. Club selection, course management, and accuracy are all important factors in this round.

A view from The Gorge 9 at Skamania Lodge.A beautiful view from the Skamania Lodge Golf CourseSkamania Lodge #7 (Windy Ridge) - Second shot should favor the left side to open up your approach to the green. Once on the green, take a minute to admire the grandeur of the Gorge, with wind Mountain in the background.Skamania Lodge #5 - A good target is the large snag guarding the middle of the fairway. (Tell yourself that you hit a good shot if you actually hit the tree!) The landing area is actually quite large, and leaves a short iron approach shot.Skamania Lodge #6: Swirling winds can make this deceptively easy looking hole a bear. Club selection is very important, as you'll notice it's quite a drop from the tee. All in all, a shot that lands on the green is really very good!Skamania Lodge #4: One of the course signature holes. Beware of the infamous Columbia Gorge winds that will blow your shot offline. A strong drive will clear the hazards, but a smart play is to lay back even with the large tree, 150 yards from the green.Skamania Lodge #1: The fairway drops off to the right, so the ideal tee shot is down the left side. The hole is slightly uphill from 150 yards in so you might need one extra club for your approach.Skamania Lodge #2: Don't be fooled by the yardage on the scorecard. This hole, with Foster Creek lurking in the trees to the left, demands accuracy off the tee. A successful tee shot will reap great rewards and offer a good chance for a birdie.

We have been playing this course for several years now. The fairways are tight and the staff usually ask how many balls do you loose, versus did you loose a ball. The views from several of the holes is are wonderful and the staff are the best around. They accommodate different size groups, and will keep everyone moving along.

I recall one Marshall would come around and have a joke to tell while he checked to see how our game was. Just the best staff and really a fun course.

There is a fairly good stay and play package. The lodge is beautiful and perfect for a large group or just the two of you.

Great course only surpassed by the folks that work there. Be prepared for super tight fairways and elevation changes. I couldn't be more pleased with our experience.

WOW. If you haven't played this course yet I highly recommend that you add this to your golfing bucket list! With tight fairways and lots of trees this is definitely a target course. If you have a slice or hook bring lots of balls!
