Skamania Lodge - The Gorge 9
About
Tucked amidst the waterfalls, peaks, forests and canyons of the Columbia River Gorge lies a rustic mountain resort called Skamania Lodge. The Lodge offers a challenging golf experience you will not soon forget! This 9-hole par three course winds through the forest and around ponds, with peace, quiet and perhaps some curious wildlife many times your only company. The course is designed for walking with a very few carts available for ADA purposes, which must be reserved in advance by calling the Golf Shop. Located about an hour east of Portland, cross the Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks and follow the signs.

Challenging but doable
Want to golf in an unbelievable natural environment. This is it. They didn't cut down many trees lol. Narrow fairways but shorter distance pars make up for it I'm a 15 handicap and did fine. Bring extra balls as there is no forgiveness if you hit it awry. Greens are small but in great shape my 35 dollar deal came with 5 dollar voucher at grill. Great burger. At half the regular cost I'd come back.
Short but narrow
Great course. It has narrow fairways that require accuracy, not distance. Place your tee shot in the fairway and you'll likely have a chance to hit the green with your approach. All the greens were large, consistent, and in excellent shape. Scenery, views, and wildlife will add to a great day of golf.
it is indeed a tight course
Other reviews saying this course is narrow are correct. If your ball is not on the fairway or on the green, it is likely gone. That said, the views are stunning and alone are worth the trip from Portland. The drive to Skamania is about 15 minutes longer than would be to most other courses I play, so not a big deal to experience something new.
After flirting with driver on 1, and getting a lucky bounce, I stuck with irons off the tee for most of the round. A couple of par 5's may tempt you to play driver. The doglegs keep your ego in check or slopes that funnel down to water. Course maintenance is the key and I'm very tempted to go back soon now having see what's in store.
Conditions were good. Summer here has been extremely dry. A few brown patches here and there but not anywhere that affects play. I suspect any other season that isn't so dry and this wouldn't happen. Greens were perfect and actually playing slow.
Staff were very courteous in the shop and cruising around the course.
Very enjoyable experience. Just bring lots of balls and expect to lose a few. Instead of looking for them among the bushes, stop and eat blackberries and take a drop.
No Driver Required
This was a fun track. Not long, but very narrow. More 4 Irons off the tees than Driver. The second time around was better. Take lots of balls.
Great combo of hiking and golf
Scenery is awesome, vistas of the Columbia Gorge on many holes. We saw racoon and deer on edge of fairways. Feels like a hike on foot with the elevation changes. Balls off the fairway are almost always lost, and if found it probably can't be hit. Bring some extar sleeves and keep taking in the environment
Scenic Course
This golf course is short but very scenic. As the previous reviewer wrote, if you can't hit straight, don't play here as it required you to hit the ball straight. It is a plus if you can shape your ball left and right since some holes require you to do that for a good angle into the green. Not a long course by any stretch, just put your tee shot in the fairway and you should have a shot onto the green.
This post is for my 3rd round here. 87
First and second round score is 95, 90
Review
Great Course - tight fairways, avoid this course if you can't hit the ball straight. Only issue I had was a Course attendant came around the corner by the green I was approaching, thus distracted me in my back swing.
Very tight
Just no reason to hit a driver or even a three wood here. Course is narrow and anything off the fairway is unplayable and probably lost. Greens were great. Staff was good.
Skamania golf
Skamania is a tight course with fairways and forest. Greens were in excellent condition and improved over the last few years. Beautiful setting and at $40 with a cart and Bratwurst dog with chips and a drink it is a good deal but if you want to score well hit it straight and use the driver and woods rarely.
Beautiful Skamania
This is my favorite Portland area golf course,
and certainly one of the most scenic. Course is in
excellent condition, especially the greens.....unexpected because of record high temps and lack of rain
Slow greens
Pace of play was extremely slow on the front side due to a large pack of seniors on the course. Otherwise a very enjoyable round, tight fairways, you can leave the driver at home. The greens were very slow, slowest I've played in this area.
Best Course Conditions
I've played Skamania a half dozen times before and this was the best experience. The greens are in excellent shape, the fairways as well. The staff was grateful and showed their appreciation that we choose to play their course. Used a riding cart this time and found it to be in excellent condition for the entire 18 holes. Can't say enough good about the facility.
Skamania Lodge Golf
Worth the drive, course is in great condition, narrow fairways and bring lots of balls; food is also great
Too tight for my skill level
This course has beautiful views, and is in excellent shape. The greens rolled nice and were in good condition, and the fairways were nice as well.
Unfortunately, this course was too tight for me to have fun. Almost every tee shot you have a narrow fairway surrounded by woods where balls cannot be found. Any shot not in the fairway is lost. Many greens are similar in that there is a few feet of grass around the green and then woods where balls cannot be found. I literally had a ball land on the shoulder of the green, take one bounce, and end up in the woods lost. I must have lost 12+ balls during my round. At other courses I usually lose 1-3.
If you hit very straight and short and want a course where you have an opportunity to score, this is the place for you. Pretty much all of the holes are short enough anyone can get there in regulation. But if you are like me and only hit the fairway about 1/2 the time, and the greens 2/3 of the time, you are going to lose an insane amount of balls and spend all of your time dropping. By the back 9 i was pretty frustrated and wasn't really enjoying myself anymore.
Do you have another ball?
I'm sure any review of this course you will see that it says to bring lots of balls, so please do so. Great course, I will play again!! Only thing was that some of the tees do need some work. The views are great and if you walk the course it's really not too bad. Super fun, got play this course!! If you can keep it in play at all it is pretty easy.
beautiful course
the only drawback to this golf outing, they allowed a 5 some to play directly in front of our foursome.we had to wait on almost all t shots and approach shots.even so we still finished in about 4 hours 30 min. lots of blind shots,I loved this course. plan to play it again and again.
Leave the driver at home!!
This was such a great place to play!! The views are amazing and if you keep the ball in play can be an easy short course. The only thing I would say that was not quite up to par were some of the tees. There were a few that were pretty bare and just sanded. Also there were a couple that didn't feel quite level, but overall a great time. The greens putted really nice!! Walking the course is not that bad, if you can walk Chahalem Glen than this will be a breeze. Just keep it in play and be on the left side of the fairway on 10. Amazing, will play again and got a great hot deal. TY Golf Now.
Accuracy rules
Course was not quite in as good condition as past rounds. Greens were a bit over sanded so they were quite slow with little break. So... Putting was easy - - but that is not really a good thing.
Fairways were good except for some spots of hard pan which I was not expecting.
Overall, I had a very nice round and a great time.
Love this place!
It was really hot the day we played and some of the fairways weren't really all that green, but I love this course. Remember to bring a couple extra sleeves of balls - this course will eat them up unless you are always in the fairway. Love the staff and great value.
beautiful scenery
beautiful course. the view alone is worth the price. hit the ball straight. bring an extra sleeve
