Skamania Lodge - The Gorge 9
About
Tucked amidst the waterfalls, peaks, forests and canyons of the Columbia River Gorge lies a rustic mountain resort called Skamania Lodge. The Lodge offers a challenging golf experience you will not soon forget! This 9-hole par three course winds through the forest and around ponds, with peace, quiet and perhaps some curious wildlife many times your only company. The course is designed for walking with a very few carts available for ADA purposes, which must be reserved in advance by calling the Golf Shop. Located about an hour east of Portland, cross the Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks and follow the signs.

Tighter than my buddy's Wallet
This course is very narrow. If you don't hit the ball straight, bring an extra dozen balls with you.
The greens were fairly quick and pretty true but the tee boxes are sparse and need some work.
Staff was excellent, and when I told the desk pro that I would be walking he told me they have complimentary pull carts. BTW, don't walk this course if you are not in at least fair shape
Straight is great!
Nice course and setting in the gorge. Hilly, with blind shots on several holes, cart recommended. Not a long course, but demands accuracy off tee, with little chance to find shots that find the un-mowed areas. Straight is great here! Greens in nice condition, though not fast. Staff very friendly.
We Love Skamania
My wife and I have played Skamania a couple of times, but not for a couple of years. We returned to Skamania for a round and rediscovered why we enjoy it so much.
We love to walk a course. Skamania is a bit of a challenge, but the natural beauty of the course and its surroundings make the walk pretty special. No houses, lots of birds, trains tooting along the Columbia, and views of the river weave together to make Skamania a special place.
It's tight...bring a few extra balls!
Beautiful Course, But Challenging
I've played here every year for the past 3 years because we get a great deal through the Portland Golf Show. This is a challenging course like others have already said. Narrow fairways and not much room for error if your not in the fairway. You will lose balls if you go left or right, but that's what makes this course fun to play. The course was in great shape when we played. My only gripe was a twosome in front of us wouldn't let us play through when we were clearly faster than they were with made for a long afternoon, but hey I was on the golf course so it couldn't be that bad. With that said, I will continue to come here and play as this is truly a beautiful course to play
Skamania equates to many lost balls
It's a beautiful course, but very punitive if you stray off course. A shot as little as 3 yards off the fairway results in a lost ball, as the woods are impenetrable. Between my wife and I (we are decent players), we lost 20 golf balls during the day. Unacceptable to me for a course to have such a small margin of error and to lose so many golf balls. Turned what should have been a great day on the course into a bad day out. Could not recommend to any of my friends to ever play this course.
very nice course
Very beautiful course. Greens were a bit bumpy having been plugged and sanded a couple weeks before. Very narrow fairways. Overall a very fun golf experience. Oh! bring some extra balls.
Nice course
Due to the narrow fairways and very rough rough, you will need to hit it straight no matter what club is in your hands, along with huge elevation changes, your missed hits equal lost balls. You have been warned, but rewards await along with some fantastic views on several holes!
Tough challenge for first timers.
Excellent golf course short and long holes all shots needed.
Paradise FOUND
What a great place, there are holes where you can see the Columbia River, hear a train horn in the distance but you hear NO automobile traffic. The staff was just GREAT and of the MANY times I have played this course I have never been disappointed. Every time I have friends who play golf and are visiting, I always take them here and they are amazed at the beauty of the course. So go play and enjoy!!!
Hope you can hit it stright!
Pro shop staff hooked my up with two locals who knew the course. Very friendly duo. Course is tight and narrow with lots of areas you can get into trouble, but it's fair, even to a hack like me. Views are spectacular. A couple of areas you encounter zip lines, which was a first to me. Bring an extra sleeve of balls.
Skamania Golf Course
The course was typical pacific north west weather. It had rained a lot during the week before so it was a little sloppy. The man in the golf shop was extremely helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. Same with the starter and marshal. Course was tight but fun. Definitely recomend this place!
Great Times
We were a little set back when we arived and were told we should not be playing. We teed off anyway and except for very sloppy storm ravaged fairways we had a great time. We had the coarse to ourselves and even with constant rain it was very peaceful and we both played well. The coarse conditions were not the green keepers fault as a storm had blown a lot of debris around the fairways but the greens were cleared.
i like the course perty good
It is a long distance around the whole course, but it is really a good course to play.
Wonderful Challenge
Excellent course for variety of challenging holes and scenic views. Can be a ball eater, but that's part of the challenge.
Great location and views of Columbia
Enjoyed course, well protected despite high wind. Keep the ball on course or bring a lot of extra balls
Warning
The course was great and the staff was even better. Golf now screwed up and didn't mention that half the course was closed and the greens were freshly punched. Had to play the front nine twice but the pro shop was willing to throw in a free cart because of golf now'a screw up.
Great place
Great place to play very challenging keep driver in bag most of the holes! Love playing here.
The fairways are very tight
The fairways are very narrow but they are not great distances so good for senior golfers like me. Holes are very picturesque and greens are challenging. I will definitely play it again and again.
Weird course, not maintained well.
Skamania is a weird course. Lots if blind shots, crazy elevation changes, strange green shapes. But there are a few problems. The greens were slow, bumpy and inconsistent from one hole to the next. Fairways and rough were also not maintained well. It played like a rural municipal course, not a resort course (which it is).
This course is very tight. If you miss tr fairway at all, you will loose a golf ball. I question the 68 rating. I'm a low handicapper and I don't know any scratch players who would shoot under par here. The woods (not marked as a hazard) make errant shots subject to stroke and distance, and because the course is so tight, even a slight miss is a 2 stroke penalty.
Not my favorite course.
The course has beautiful surroundings and a very peaceful atmosphere.
I always enjoy playing at Skamania because it is a great place to have a fun day.
