Excellent Staff
A few others and myself play this course on a weekly basis and although its a bit of a drive for me, it become clear as to why we come back once we arrive. The staff there is fantastic, we are always treated very well by all of the employees. Carrie the head pro almost always comes in to the dining area where we head after the round to talk with us a bit, which is nice of her to do and the guys always appreciate it. The food is always great as well the beer selection is pretty darn good too.
Nice Coarse but overpriced
The coarse was in good shape, greens were hard and fast though making it impossible to hold the greens and difficult to putt, staff seemed a little standoffish. There are courses in the area that are as nice and less money to play, and for people like me on a budget that makes a difference
follow up review
This is an old timey course. Excellent lay out, interesting course. Small greens, undulating, which was the defense of this course in those times, shorter yardages. You HAVE to expect that. When I was there the Stimpmeter must have been 11.5 (?). This was NOT how the course was designed. When I called after the round, the lady pro said I probably (?) didn't know how to putt (I'm a 7 hdcp)? Previous reviews showed this woman to be the major problem. She is no longer there for obvious reasons! We will now come back again, because it is so interesting and greens will be 9-10 on the Stimpmeter (promised).
Hard to explain, please read
A little back round: I'm 70 yrs old and a 7 hdcp and I ONLY drive the ball 210 yds. We drove up from central Oregon to play the course, 170 miles. This is an old timey course. Which we understood, BEFORE we played. It's not long, because it was designed more than 40+ years ago. The defense on these type of courses are the greens. They're NECESSARILY small with a LOT of undulations. This is PERFECTLY acceptable on this type of course (I'm a 7 hdcp), BECAUSE I can chip and putt). Back when this course was designed, the mowers probably couldn't cut below an 1/8 inch? Now they can mow down to 13+ on the Stimp Meter. Well, the course was great! A lot of water in play and ball placement needed always. HOWEVER, the greens were rolling at 11+ on the stimp meter. These greens were NEVER designed for this. If you were 6 ft above a hole, you COULD NOT take your putter back more than 1 inch unless you wanted a 5ft putt coming back. That is why I CANNOT rate the course conditions. I tried talking to the lady in charge and she basically said I don't know how to putt and was very condescending. Other reviewers: " I would agree with the last reviewer about the gal who is behind the counter. Personality plus, would not be her forte." My guess it was the one I talked to.? What is even stranger: I played the next day at Lewis River and the guy behind the counter there said, "were the people friendly" when you checked in? Word gets around it seems? So, summary, hard to rate the course. They could care LESS about any minor criticism. The golf business must be really really good?
Be Patience
Greens were in excellent shape! The course A little rough around the edges, but over all a fun course to play! Be patience off the tee box and you will be fine. I enjoyed the scenery!
Tough but fun
The Cedars is fairly difficult at times. Bring an extra sleeve of balls, just in case. Lots of high rough, brush, and water tobedevil one. The greens were. In very good shape, and challenge ing, lots of up down and sideways ! All in all,a very fun time.
jhhpar
Wonderful course tee to green and in good shape; the rough is a bit overgrown and unkempt.
coure reflects hard times
made the reservation on-line, special price including cart $21.00 total for 18 holes. upon arrival told cart path only, had I known I would have walked (left the pull carts at home). # 8 bridge out, needs repair/ replacement. sand traps like concrete, not raked. # 9 hole now a par 4, used to be a par 5. # 10 hole used to have elevated tee boxes, now lowered (9 and 10 used to be their signature holes, now just average). signs everywhere say "hot dogs, cold beer at turn", turn facility unmanned/ closed. no beverage cart on course. played in 3 hours though because nobody else was on the course, they all ready knew what I learned.
Course landscape is very nice.
The fairways were soft and greens a little bumpy. I enjoy playing at Cedars because it is very of the beautiful landscape.
Tucked away Gem
This course is gorgeous. Beautiful trees, bridges, and scenic holes. A river snakes it's way through the entire course. Some difficult but fun shots r waiting for you to enjoy. The blues will test the avid golfer as the white tees will cater to others abilities:). The only reason for a 4 rating is a very simple fix, but obviously being over looked. Get a SPEAKER so we know as Golfers who is next up...Ridiculous, that the lady in the Pro Shop was running back and forth down stairs to tell the Golfers they r next....The speaker doesn't have to be loud...every course that I have ever been to of real acknowledgment has a Speaker..lol.......Great Golf Course!:)/***
That lady doe NOT like any suggestions!
good course, still soggy
played Cedars many times, it always seems to beat up my handicap. Like the course, it's a challenge, but still really wet in a lot of spots. Will need a lot more dry days before we can quit playing winter rules
Great course
I would agree with the last reviewer about the gal who is behind the counter. Personality plus, would not be her forte. With that being said, if you are looking for a challenging course, great price, and all the features a quality course should have then I recommend you go to Cedars. Also, if you sign-up for email correspondence with Cedars, they will send you an update to weather, aeration, frost concerns.
That lady seems to have all the answers? Not very friendly and will hurt in the long run.
Cedars via golf now hot deal
Had not played the course in 10+ years but saw a foursome with cart at 12:45. Greens were very spongy, do you plug in spring? All the dog legs were great change from straight on hole design, love the back 9! Pro shop lady was great and efficient for running the whole show, sign in, and t announcements. The golf now hot deal was a bonus for the little extra drive time but should have walked the course since path only. We are coming back once the greens are plugged and a little better shape. Thanks!
Same rude staff at Cedars
I stopped playing Cedars 5-6 years ago because of the way I was always treated by their staff and it's even worse now. I had an 11:30 tee time today and when I arrived I was told that, because of a frost delay, I would be going out at 1:12. I asked why their website had no frost delay update and no policy regarding delays, why at least an email could be sent to keep people informed, etc. The head woman pro just looked at me and shrugged. I told her that, since it gets dark at around 5:00, I wouldn't be able to even finish my round and got another "tough luck" shrug. So I ended up driving 35 miles round trip and not being able to play. Never again Cedars.
Hello. Same thing I posted previously. But, don't dare mention it to the woman pro there. I'm a 7 hdcp and she said I don't know how to putt? The ONLY reason I'm a 7 hdcp is BECAUSE I CAN chip and putt. Staff friendliness=a joke...
